Mark Cuban buys the entire Texas town of Mustang

December 6, 2021

Mark Cuban , the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team and “Shark Tank” investor, purchased an entire Texas town last month, but says his plans for the property are still up in the air, reports Fox Business.

The Dallas Morning News was first to report that the 77 acres that comprise the town of Mustang—roughly 55 miles south of Dallas, with a population of 21—were “lassoed” by the entrepreneur.

The deal includes an abandoned strip club where a murder occurred, a building for the volunteer fire department, and a trailer park in the town of 20-some people at last count.

“I don’t know what if anything I will do with it,” Cuban told the newspaper, noting that he only bought the town because a good friend needed to offload it.

It’s unclear what Cuban paid for Mustang, but the town went onto the market for $4 million back in 2017, and the price was eventually reduced to $2 million.

Mike Turner, the real estate broker who listed the property, told the Houston Chronicle of Mustang during a 2017 interview, “There was a strip club there called Wispers that has since permanently closed. There was a killing there, the business had quite a tale.”

As an added bonus for Cuban’s purchase, Turner says, “There is a resident alligator in one of the ponds.”

John Kasich, Mark Cuban lead among independent candidates for 2020 presidential election

November 8, 2017

If the 2020 general election for president were held today, for which independent candidate would you vote?  When 1,514 likely U.S. voters were asked that question  in October by Zogby Analytics, Governor John Kasich of Ohio took the lead (13%) and Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, came in second at 6%.

However, most respondents (39%)  to the poll, released November 33, stated “none of the above  and  second-highest number (34%) responded “not sure.”

Other candidates that drew some support in the poll included Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson (6%), Green Party candidate Jill Stein (5%), former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz (4%) and Disney CEO Bog Iger (2%).

The survey may have been slightly skewed because it was conducted before Mark Cuban announced that, if he were to run in 2020, he would probably do so as a Republican. In the Zogby poll,  Cuban  received the strongest support from voters aged 18-29 (19%), Liberals (18%), voters with household income between $50-75k (18%), and Democrats (16%).

The researchers commented, “ Mark Cuban doesn’t appear to be necessarily in sync with Republican voters, as only 8% would choose him, even when only considering independent candidates; overall he appears to be more of a choice of young Democrats than typical Republican voters.”

John Kasich— who became well-known to voters in the 2016 Republican primaries—displayed  a different pattern of strength in this poll. He scored his best results among self-identified investors (20%), Republicans (17%), voters over age 65 (19%), voters with household incomes in the $75k-100k range (17%) and those who only own landline phones (18%).
